The primary reason why people started wearing perfumes was to keep away unpleasant body odors and to smell fresh. However, over the years, the usage of perfumes has changed from merely offering fragrances to being associated with sophistication. Perfumes are generally expensive and prices of the high-end ones are worth thousands per bottle. The cost arrived at is of course due to the rarity, but also from the fragrance extracted, and especially- the bottle.

Let's have a look at the top 10 most expensive perfumes in 2026 that money can buy.

1. Le Monde Sur Mesure - USD 1.8 million

Developed by the French company Morreale, Paris, the five kilograms of the Le Monde Sur Mesure was sold for a whopping USD1.8 million to an anonymous buyer who designed their very own fragrance encapsulated in the bottle. The bottle was finished in two kilograms of gold with 1,000 diamonds featuring all around it. Each bottle requires it to be worked on by 35 people for up to a year. 

2. Le Monde sur Mesure - USD 1.5 million

Another entry by French perfumist Morreale, Paris is another signature scent created for an anonymous family in the Middle East. The bottle comes from the same range with prices of fragrances reportedly ranging from US$ 1.5 to 7 million.  This particular bottle sold had gold armour and encrusted diamonds.

The third entry on the list of the world's most expensive perfumes is the Shumukh perfume, created right here in the UAE. 'Shumukh' is an Arabic word, meaning 'deserving the highest'. The inventors of the perfume are called 'Creators of Spirit' and are under the luxury fragrance brand Nabeel. Costing an eye-watering US$1.3 million for a 3-litre bottle, the perfume arrives in an  Italian Murano crystal bottle, adorned with a gold falcon, Arabian horses, roses and a globe to represent the spirit of Dubai. The entire bottle contains 3,571 diamonds (38.55 carats in total), big pearls, 2.5 kg of 18-K gold, and 5.9 kgs of pure silver. The bottle itself stands two metres tall and sits on a cushioned leather stand also nearly two meters tall - leading it to win two Guinness World Records - one for most diamonds set in a perfume bottle and the second for it being tallest commercially available remote-controlled fragrance spray bottle. The perfume has notes of sandalwood, musk, ylang-ylang, Turkish rose, Indian agar wood, musk and patchouli.

4. DKNY Golden Delicious Million Dollar Fragrance Bottle - usd 1 million

The most expensive perfumes ever sold was for one million dollars. It was the famous designer DKNY that had teamed up with the renowned jewellery designer, Martin Katz to design and create the most beautiful and expensive perfume ever. The bottle features 2,909 precious stones that include 183 yellow sapphires, 2,700 white diamonds, a 7.18-carat oval Cabochon sapphire from Sri Lanka, 15 striking pink diamonds from Australia, 4 rose-cut diamonds, a 1.6-carat turquoise Paraiba tourmaline from Brazil, a 3.07-carat oval-cut ruby, a 4.03-carat pear shape rose-cut diamond and a 2.43-carat flawless, yellow Canary diamond that beautifies the cap.

The stones were hand-placed for 1,500 hours in a way to resemble the skyline of New York City. After the sale of the perfume, its proceedings were donated to the Action Against Hunger Charity organisation.

To celebrate Bvlgari's 130th anniversary, this perfume is in a bottle reminiscent of an ancient Roman amphora. Bvlgari has set the price of the perfume at $235,000, which is one of the highest in the fragrance industry.
