The U.A.E. is Prepared for Uncertainty
In the current regional climate, the U.A.E. stands out as a model of national readiness and responsiveness. Through deliberate planning, long-term investment and integrated infrastructure, the country has engineered resilience across critical sectors like energy, food, defence, financial markets and more.
The World’s Largest Single-Site Underground Oil Reserve
The $4.2 billion Habshan–Fujairah Oil Pipeline was built by the United Arab Emirates to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical and vulnerable oil chokepoints. It spans from Abu Dhabi oil fields to Fujairah, beneath which lies 42 million barrels of underground oil storage, forming the largest single-site reserve globally. This strategic reserve ensures an uninterrupted energy supply, shields against external volatility and reinforces the U.A.E.’s position as a global energy stabiliser.
One of The Largest Sovereign Wealth Portfolios Globally
The U.A.E.holds one of the largest sovereign wealth portfolios globally, combining well over $1 trillion in deployable capital, and giving it deep liquidity in times of crisis. This financial powerhouse is able to stabilise markets, support banks, or inject liquidity instantly when needed, and provides long-term global income independent of oil. The U.A.E. consistently acts early with its proactive fiscal policies and has already deployed an AED 1 billion stimulus package.
Strategic Transport Infrastructure – The Etihad Rail
The 900 km-Etihad Rail network is a cornerstone of national logistics and energy security. By linking critical infrastructure corridors across the country, all the way from Fujairah to the Saudi Arabia border, it significantly reduces reliance on maritime routes.
Multi-Layered Defence Systems
As the current situation has progressed, over 2000 threats have been successfully intercepted.
It is a feat that relies on six integrated layers of defence, forming a comprehensive shield against aerial threats. Notably, the U.A.E. became the first non-U.S. nation to deploy the THAAD system.
Cybersecurity
With cyber threats escalating globally, the U.A.E. has invested heavily in digital resilience through its National Cybersecurity Strategy. The result is up to 200,000 cyberattacks thwarted daily. This proactive cyber defence framework protects critical infrastructure, financial systems and national data ecosystems, reinforcing the country’s status as a global economic leader.
Future-Focused Food Security
Under the National Food Security Strategy 2051, the U.A.E. has identified 18 essential food categories, each supported by 3 to 5 diversified sourcing channels. Complementing this is the development of the world’s largest vertical farm, reducing import dependency while enhancing local production capacity in a desert environment.
Water Security
Water resilience is being addressed through a 90-day emergency reserve target, supported by a $400 million aquifer storage system and interlinked national water networks. These systems ensure uninterrupted access to water resources.
Pre-Emptive Not Reactive
What distinguishes the U.A.E. is not just the scale of its infrastructure but the philosophy behind it. Systems were built in advance, not in response to a crisis. This approach was validated during the COVID-19 pandemic, where pre-existing frameworks enabled rapid adaptation, continuity and recovery.
