Arabian Tradition Meets Contemporary Innovation at Muraba
The popular conception of Dubai is that of a cutting-edge, urban wonder. Glass towers with contemporary architecture dominate the skyline. Landmarks like the Museum of the Future and the Burj Khalifa appear to be visiting from the future, so forward-thinking are their designs.
Muraba Veil bucks this trend.
Expected to be completed by Q4 2028, the 72-storey structure overlooks the tranquil Dubai Canal waters, promising a stunning blend of urban luxury and natural inspirations. The ultra-thin tower by Pritzker Prize-winning RCR Arquitectes uses contemporary materials and innovation to speak the language of traditional Arabian design. A striking exterior looks hewn from the desert, skinny and sandy-coloured. Vast interiors feature earthy colours, soaring ceilings, cascades of greenery and placid pools. Modern twists on the inner courtyard and more classic Arabian design features stand out.
This is a revolutionary departure from Dubai’s architectural norm. Each and every facet of the house is in conversation with not only the surrounding culture, but also the surrounding climate. The eponymous veil is a stainless steel mesh that covers the entire tower. Like the traditional mashrabiya, it provides shade and natural ventilation while allowing for light to gently pour inside. Importantly, residents are able to control how open or closed the veil is at all times, adapting to natural conditions.
News reports have strongly hinted at the robust sustainability Muraba Veil will enjoy. The veil is a breathable second skin that allows for natural light sans natural heat. Grand interiors feature hybrid spaces with greenery, water, shade and a seamless connection to the outdoors — cross-ventilation that reduces the need for electronically taxing A/Cs.
Buffered from the outdoors but nevertheless connected to it, the tower also promotes bespoke privacy. Each home spans the entire depth of the tower, with a maximum of three homes on a single floor. Residents do not have to share neighbouring doors, corridors or even elevators. This is privacy steeped in tranquility, powered by unparalleled luxury.
It is a luxury that extends to the tower amenities as well. These include multiple pools, wellness facilities including a spa resembling an underground cavern, a chic cinema, serviced majlis lounge, rooftop dining, padel court and much more.
And so perhaps it is Muraba Veil that is of the future — a tower rooted in heritage, incorporating the contemporary, and paving the way for sustainable, innovative and unforgettable luxury living.
