Six Luxury Destinations for The Eid Holidays

With Eid upon us, Christie’s International Real Estate Dubai takes a look at six places to travel to for the perfect holiday getaway.

With Ramadan coming to a close and the Eid holidays around the corner, now is the time to enjoy a relaxed yet refined vacation. We pick six destinations:

Maldives

The ultimate tropical paradise, Maldives comprises a slew of soothing, private islands resting on the Indian Ocean. Most boast luxurious, overwater villas bathed in sunshine, and wrapped by lush palm trees. Fall asleep to the gently lapping waves and wake up to early morning dips. Notwithstanding the variety of high-end resorts and the chance to laze around on the beach for days on end, a range of singular activities charm. These include bespoke wellness facilities, world-class dining and snorkelling amongst the unparalleled marine life.

Switzerland

With iconic mountains, train journeys and skiing, Switzerland is a permanent fixture on any list of holiday getaways. Tourists can enjoy the historic architecture of Zurich and Bern before heading onto the effortlessly cool Basel and Lucerne. In between, find time to indulge in Geneva’s cosmopolitanism, which fits in seamlessly with the imposing Alps as well as the adventure delights of Interlaken. Switzerland truly blends multiple lifestyles to make for the quintessentially picturesque European getaway. And we haven’t even mentioned the chocolate and chalets yet

Mauritius

Mauritius was famously paid tribute to by no less an authority than Mark Twain — “Heaven was copied after Mauritius.” Though the endless stretches of beaches rightfully dominate, the country also offers a delightful mix of activities. These include the stunning Blue Bay Marine Park with its vast array of marine life, the iconic Le Morne mountain and vast tea estates. The country’s unique mix of Indian, African and European influence tells when it comes to the dining — from traditional Mauritian fare to international cuisine.

Cyprus

Cyprus is really three breathtakingly beautiful holidays blended into one. Serene vistas dominated by rugged mountains dance merrily with the ruins of Kition and Larnaca Fort, the medieval Limassol Castle, the Greco-Roman amphitheatre at Kourion, and the timeless mosaics of Paphos. The Cyprus Museum, with finds from the 7th century BC, is also a must see, as are the vast expanses of pristine, Mediterranean beaches. This mythical birthplace of Aphrodite counts as amongst the most idyllic island getaways around.

Seychelles

The tranquil Seychelles archipelago can offer an array of paradisiacal worlds, most famous of which are the invigorating beaches lapped by crystal clear waters, as well as the stunningly diverse marine sanctuaries. Away from the shore, tourists can enjoy the old-world splendour of heritage sites and colonial-era architecture, as well as the hustle and bustle of the city’s unique markets. And with 115 islands to choose from, this is endlessly engaging luxury.

Tanzania

Tanzania is a nature-lover’s paradise, whose most renowned attraction is the safari at the Serengeti National Park. It plays host every year to the Great Migration, where millions of zebras, gazelles, wildebeest and more make an annual pilgrimage across a landscape already populated by elephants and lions. The great lakes, where flamingos flock, and the forests of the chimpanzees, also delight. Conversely, the snowy Mount Kilimanjaro offers a thrill a world away from Dubai. And, of course, soothing beaches and resplendent waters are always a hit, as are kitesurfing, scuba diving and dhow cruises.
